Scott Kalter, Esq., passed the July 2017 Cal Bar Exam

I highly recommend Steven Harris' program for the California Bar Examination, whether it's your 1st time or your 5th time.  In fact, his materials will give you an advantage in any jurisdiction.

Cal Bar Exam pass rate INCREASES! Why? Read on...

Hello everyone!

Great news tonight for more Cal Bar Exam applicants this year.  49.6% passed July 2017, which is a 6% increase year over year from July 2016.

Why?

One indicator, surprisingly enough from a nationwide perspective, was a nationwide (and California) INCREASED score on the MBE.

From July 2013-2016, MBE scaled scores have been trending DOWN significantly.

CALIFORNIA SCALED SCORES

July 2013  1459

July 2014  1435

July 2015  1424

July 2016  1421

Cal Bar Exam changes for July 2017 - you can care now

Oct

Hello everyone!

I last wrote that Cal Bar was going to change the exam in July 2017 and that applicants should not care about it.  At the time, that advice was correct since inexplicably the Bar voted to make the change on the day before the July 2015 Cal Bar Exam.

Now that the exam has come and went, we can consider the impact of the changes to the exam.  So... what's changing?

Currently, the Cal Bar has the following components:

Tuesday:  3 1-hour essays in the morning, and one 3-hour PT in the afternoon

Brian Yosowitz, Esq - MBE Primers and Flowcharts

MBE Primers And Flowcharts makes taking the MBE much easier. MBE Primers and Flowcharts demystifies the subtle nuances between questions and clearly states what to look for and what will be the right answer.  I personally looked at one subject a day for a month before the bar and when I finally got to the test the MBE section was much clearer and I understood what to look for in each question. Steven also gives some great tips as to what to look for and what to be careful of on the MBE section of the bar. This is a great book for MBE section and will improve your score.

MBE Tutoring

Go on.  Ask your tutor whether she or he tutors the MBE. What was the answer? A discount on Adaptibar? Just do some and you'll be fine? A schedule of questions with no other guidance? Is that what you're paying $3,000 - $10,000 for? Seriously? You can do better than that! I give you a schedule of MBEs in my calendar, sure. But I do way, way more than that. I help you hyperfocus on the two most disproportionally tested issues on the MBE and maximize your score.

MBE (multiple choice) takers: how well should I be doing right now?

May

So, uh, how's that PMBR 6-day class going, first-timers?  Are you averaging 30% correct thus far and wondering how you ever got through law school?  Graduation doesn't seem too helpful now, does it?

Fear not, bar takers.  It's NORMAL.  During the 6-day PMBR class or 6-day Bar/Bri MBE class, averaging 30-40% is NORMAL.  Happens all the time.  Some good benchmarks to consider:

6-day PMBR or Bar/Bri class:  30-40% correct on the MBE

Bar/Bri simulated exam (usually in late June, sometimes in July):  52-53% RAW SCORE.

Bar Exam:  63-65%.
